This past week the weather in San Francisco wasn’t ready for me to have a picnic, but I was very ready to have a summer picnic. One of the first qualities of my boyfriend that won me over was his sense of romanticism. I understood this when he told me a story of buying a picnic basket upon first becoming single four years ago. Any male who has a true desire to picnic with a girlfriend…already begins winning over my heart.

Given the weather this past week wasn’t sunny or warm enough to picnic outdoors, I surprised my boyfriend by setting up a picnic in his living room one night. With sunflowers fresh from Trader Joe’s to place on his coffee table, a yard and a half of red-and-white gingham fabric straight from Joann’s, and a few summer dishes, I was able to bring the spirit of a picnic indoors.

It might not have had sunshine coming down from above, but it certainly felt bright and happy.
