It’s that time of year. The weather is warming up. The sun is out. And I have an irresistible impulse to dye my hair blonde. This happens occasionally. When I get a bored with my life, am dealing with a transition, and/or want something new to get excited about, I feel the urge to change my hair color.
Given my awareness that this pattern has nothing to do with an actual DISSATISFACTION with my appearance and most often to do with a desire for fun, I try to come up with a project or hobby that EXCITES me and engage in that instead – rather than change my hair color. (Though I’m sure many women would agree, a change in hair color for adding a dash of color to life is not necessarily a bad thing.)
This week, I’ve been dealing with changes, career transitions and feeling a bit BLAH. So instead of embracing this urge to become a blonde, I’ve decided to spend some time on an inventive recipe test, blog post, and video. This is a recipe for white brownies or blondies. A Case-in-Chef original that I like to call “Make Me a Blond(ie)!”
Ingredients: 1 stick ( 8 tablespoons) salted butter, melted, 1 cup (215 grams) lightly packed golden brown sugar, 1 large cold egg, 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, 1 cup (130 grams) all-purpose flour, 1 crushed up chocolate bar or chocolate chips (optional)
- Heat oven to 350 degrees.
- Cover an 8-inch by 8-inch metal baking pan with aluminum foil.
- Stir melted butter and brown sugar together in a large bowl.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract (optional) and salt.
- Stir vigorously until smooth.
- Add the flour and stir until fully incorporated. The batter will be thick.
- Spread the batter evenly in lined pan.
- If desired, top with chocolate chips or crushed chocolate bar pieces.
- Bake 20 to 25 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
- Allow to cool.
- Cut into squares and serve!
